OUR FAVOURITE PLACE - GREAT BARRIER ISLAND - Aotea Whakahirahira (Aotea, the island of renown)
Let us show you our favorite place - spectacular scenery, an unspoilt paradise - one of the regions last great wilderness areas with a rich history.
Great Barrier has everything - both large and small offshore islands, large protected harbours, sheltered mangrove estuaries and beautiful sweeping white sandy beaches. There is a huge diversity of plants and animals, many of which are protected and large pods of the common and bottlenose dolphins live close to the shore and are frequently seen searching for food, both at sea and in the harbours. Whales are also often seen during their migratory travels.
Many stunning bush tracks offer walking and tramping for all levels of fitness and there are exciting opportunities for mountain biking for the more energetic.
Be woken by Great Barrier's impressive variety of native birds - watch gannets swooping and diving or feed the ducks that seem to arrive out of nowhere when you lower the anchor.
Dine fresh from the sea - we know where to dive for crayfish and scallops, catch snapper and where to get the wonderful green lipped mussels Great Barrier is so famous for.
Take home a jar of truly delicious Nagels Nectar Manuka Honey or a healing manuka potion from Sven at Great Barrier Gold.
Join us on Takapu2 and discover our place at your pace.
